Users using - talking - responding

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

I just wanted to say thanks to those of you who took the time to try out Imity during our first days, and extra special thanks to those of you who gave us all the good feedback, both on the app in general and in particular on the hard stuff - phone compatibility. We want this to work on every phone where it could conceivable work, but that is going to take some effort. Your feedback is truly invaluable.

It feels great to see Imity being used by all of you.

Server feeling shy

Thursday, January 4th, 2007

It seems as if the server has been a little temperamental this morning, not too happy to meet all its new friends. I do apologize for that - and will be giving the machine a good talking to over the day if it starts acting up again.

Try us out

Thursday, January 4th, 2007

We just wrote the following message to those who signed up that they would like to be invited as beta testers

Welcome to 2007 - and to Imity!
You signed up as an Imity beta tester, and today we’re happy to tell you that we’re ready to create your account.

Sign up here.

We’ve seen this done in less than three minutes.

It’s a beta…

No, really. It is. As you know, that means

  • Bugs.
On some phones, Imity may be acting up. If you experience weird behaviour, please describe it on forum.imity.com. You may also want to try the Generic version of Imity. Find and download it at imity.com/app from your phone’s browser.
  • Constant development.
We’re adding features and correcting bugs by the hour, so - again - please use the forum or your email client.
  • It’s free.
We strongly expect Imity to be free in the future, too. And free in more than one sense of the word, actually: We expect to open source the Java phone application during the first half of 2007.
  • Your feedback is golden.
We love any kind of feedback, really. In the forum, in our mailboxes, any feedback is good feedback. That’s why we’ll probably be getting back in touch in a few weeks to hear your opinions.
We want to hear from you. Our forum is always open for your suggestions, bug reports and general comments.

Have a lot of fun in real life with Imity in your pocket,

All our best,
The Imity Team

That means you too. Give Imity a whirl. It’s more fun if you talk a few friends into joining too…

Going Open

Wednesday, January 3rd, 2007

It’s just about time to open the doors here at Imity. We’ve had a good look at the project as we were were doing early testing and along the way we have come to a conclusion, that has sort of been lurking in the background all the time: Imity is much better off as a platform that is as open as at all possible in every sense of the word.
So we’re making the platform extensible, we’re going to open source the phone client and we’re completely committed to integrating Imity and our presence data with anything we possibly can.

This also reflects the nature of the project: Imity is an idea we think rocks first and a potential further-down-the-road product second. We think Imity has a better shot at making a difference if we keep our plans as open as possible.
This also means we hope to involve other people - that means you - in developing this concept. Look here for updates no the project to open source the java client and our soon to come integration APIs.

Imity in a tapas bar

Saturday, December 23rd, 2006

At a tapas bar last night, Søren had an Imity experience with complete strangers. In real-life, that is.

I’ve been reading Dalager’s blog for some time and strangely enough I just added him as a contact on Flickr yesterday morning, and then we end up at the same tapas bar that evening and because of imity, we ended up talking and having fun for a couple of hours together.

Makes me smile. He continues,

Most online activities have relations to offline things and the other way around, which is why we should not distinguish so much between on and offline.

So what is imity? Online or offline? Bothline? Mixedline? I guess not. And, if strangers talk because of it, who cares what line?

If you’re at Le Web in Paris these days, you can recognize Claus by this bag

Rather cool, no? Claus says it’s perfect for his laptop. You can get one yourself. Or perhaps a t-shirt that glows in the dark?

Get it here, share here.

Conferenceleweb3paris2006_1On Tuesday December 12th, Claus will be speaking at the Le Web conference in Paris. He is participating in the slot named after the since 1992 much asked, never answered question: “When will virtual life better than our real life?”

Exhibiting at Next 2006 - this weekend

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

innovationlablogo.gifWith a big screen tv and a small mobile phone, we’ll show our new live event viewer on the Next 2006 exhibition here in Copenhagen. In fact, it’s in the same building as our office, so it’ll be a short commute. It’s this weekend, Friday included.

See what Imity events are all about on our newly updated website, by the way.

At New Media Days

Friday, October 13th, 2006

We did our conference cloud thing at New Media Days here in Copenhagen - and I also presented the company in a pitching session -for which the audience graciously awarded us “best pitch” out of three. Thanks everybody. I would have loved to live demo from stage - but right now we’re in closed test release and we won’t be sharing with the rest of you until the start of november.

Social networking fact of the day

Wednesday, September 6th, 2006

A recent unrest among the users of Facebook, caused by a new “person feeds” feature highlights an important, but strangely overlooked, fact about the social mechanics on checking up on your friends: The most important thing about it is the social exchange, not the information exchange.
In other words, there’s a reason the correct reply to the greeting “Hi, how are you” is “Fine, how are you” and not “Well, you see - I’m feeling a bit bloated. I had too much to eat at lunch, but workwise I’m good”, or similar detailed accounts of your mental and physical state.
